The Onion Book

The Onion Book is A Bounty of Culture, Cultivation, and Cuisine. This little book is packed full of information on growing, harvesting, and cooking onions, not to mention, interesting history and lore. All types of onions-sweet and hot-red, yellow, and white are covered as well as leeks, shallots, pearl, bulb, and bunching onions. Recipes range from classic onion soup, baked onions, and onion rings to a peanut butter & onion sandwich and allium upside-down cake. In our cooking pots we've found, onions make the world go 'round.

Carolyn Dille and Susan Belsinger, Interweave Press, 1996; $9.95.
